Camp Geronimo was an incredible experience for all of us this year. Apart from earning our Merit Badges and ranking up, we were able to enjoy ourselves at campfires, playing Dungeons & Dragons at night, riding horses, and listening to the Mogollon Monster story. On Monday we started our Merit Badge classes after breakfast at 6am. We all went to morning classes and started our first round of requirements for each MB, before meeting back up to eat lunch. We then went to our afternoon classes and had dinner at 5pm. The camp staff held a campfire at 7:30 that night, where we all got to enjoy the most passionate rendition of If I Were a Boy Scout we’ve ever seen. Tuesday followed the same schedule for the most part, minus the evening campfire. Instead, we used our free time to do a night hike/compass course, followed by a fun session of Dungeons & Dragons, with Carter as our Dungeon Master. Wednesday is popularly believed to have been the best day of the summer camp. The meals at the mess hall were by far the best of the entire camp. At 3pm, we went down to Geronimo’s ranch to go horseback riding. We had a fun ride and got to meet plenty of the horses, and did the nature walk later that evening. Thursday was another incredibly fun day. Mr. Thomas was very thoughtful, and he brought ingredients to bake some cakes for the troop for the occasion of two scouts’ birthdays. We had a fun and hilarious night enjoying it after going to Spade Ranch to hear the Mogollon Monster story. We had a great time playing D&D to finish off the day. Friday, our final day, we attended the last campfire, where we learned that our troop earned the
Big G Gold award, for doing all of the camp’s recommended activities and passing all campsite inspections. We did a great job and were able to celebrate that night. We left the following day, and we can all agree that it was a very fun, exciting, and rewarding time. We all look forward to seeing each other again on future outings, and I personally can’t wait to do more with this troop.

In May, we went on a day-long hike at the Watson Lake Loop in Prescott rather than a campout. We got to go hiking and take in the beautiful scenery as we went geocaching, while Jeremy took charge and led us to most of the locations. Speaking of Jeremy, it’s worth mentioning that he takes the term ‘breaking in boots’ a little too seriously. We had not walked for more than 10 seconds on the start of the trail when his entire shoe sole fell off. We, as scouts do, improvised and came up with a temporary fix, after having a good laugh about it. We had lunch and turned back to the last stretch of the trail, not forgetting to get our fill of watching the car show that was being held nearby.
We had a fun hike, and you could feel the buzz of anticipation for the upcoming Geronimo summer camp in June. Everyone is excited, and can’t wait to attend one of my favorite parts of Scouting. The Troop was excited to head out on the August Campout. We were going to Camp Raymond to shoot some rifles and shotguns in the Council’s open shoot. The drive up was a little long, but it gave us plenty of time to talk and catch up on things. When we got to camp we set up our tents and cooking equipment.
In the morning I made breakfast with a new scout. We cooked breakfast burritos and they turned out really good. After lunch we went shooting at the rifle range. For two of the scouts, it was their first time shooting. We shot .22 rifles as it started to rain. The rain got worse and it started to hail, keeping us from shooting the shotguns. We had fun hiking back to camp in the rain and hail. When we got back to our campsite we discovered that the leader’s tents were completely flooded. Due to the storm and the lightning, we had to leave camp and return to Anthem early. Once we arrived back in Anthem, we had a small birthday celebration for one of the Scouts. Even though this campout was cut short, we made some great memories! The July outing was held on a Saturday and we did a few different activities. We met at Anthem Prep to have a chess tournament. Mr. Curry, the Anthem Prep chess coach led us through the merit badge class. Then we played three games of chess. After chess, we went to Rays to have pizza and to hang out. Then we went to Sam’s Yogurt to cool off and have some dessert.
We had a 7 pm slot at North Valley Escape Room. The Troop had to make it through The Great Outdoors. I don’t want to ruin the room for anyone reading. I will just say that we had a great time solving all the great clues. We worked well together as a team and we escaped! Our May outing was a hike on Daisy Mountain. May was hot, so we did not go on a campout. The Scouts chose this hike because it was something we always wanted to do, even though it is a basic hike. It was a fun trail. We did not see a lot of wild life but we saw some different insects. The best thing about the trip was the view of Anthem from the top. We can finally say we have hiked Daisy Mountain!
Troop 432 went to camp Raymond in April. We drove up on a Saturday morning. We had a younger Scout cook his fist meal for his second class rank. He did a great job making a fantastic meal. After lunch we went on a hike and it was an adventure that each scout enjoyed. When we got to the top of the hill the view was majestic and beautiful.
After the hike our Senior Patrol Leader made his famous lasagna. The lasagna turned out absolutely perfect. Then we had some hot cobbler. We also had a flag retirement. Then we went to bed and slept under the stars. Next morning we woke up and one of the other scouts made the French toast with whipped cream and maple syrup. To top it off, we had candy strawberries on the French toast. Our troop has a lot of good cooks. We had a nice drive home! |
