Camp Geronimo was an incredible experience for all of us this year. Apart from earning our Merit Badges and ranking up, we were able to enjoy ourselves at campfires, playing Dungeons & Dragons at night, riding horses, and listening to the Mogollon Monster story. On Monday we started our Merit Badge classes after breakfast at 6am. We all went to morning classes and started our first round of requirements for each MB, before meeting back up to eat lunch. We then went to our afternoon classes and had dinner at 5pm. The camp staff held a campfire at 7:30 that night, where we all got to enjoy the most passionate rendition of If I Were a Boy Scout we’ve ever seen. Tuesday followed the same schedule for the most part, minus the evening campfire. Instead, we used our free time to do a night hike/compass course, followed by a fun session of Dungeons & Dragons, with Carter as our Dungeon Master. Wednesday is popularly believed to have been the best day of the summer camp. The meals at the mess hall were by far the best of the entire camp. At 3pm, we went down to Geronimo’s ranch to go horseback riding. We had a fun ride and got to meet plenty of the horses, and did the nature walk later that evening. Thursday was another incredibly fun day. Mr. Thomas was very thoughtful, and he brought ingredients to bake some cakes for the troop for the occasion of two scouts’ birthdays. We had a fun and hilarious night enjoying it after going to Spade Ranch to hear the Mogollon Monster story. We had a great time playing D&D to finish off the day. Friday, our final day, we attended the last campfire, where we learned that our troop earned the
Big G Gold award, for doing all of the camp’s recommended activities and passing all campsite inspections. We did a great job and were able to celebrate that night. We left the following day, and we can all agree that it was a very fun, exciting, and rewarding time. We all look forward to seeing each other again on future outings, and I personally can’t wait to do more with this troop.
