The Troop was excited to head out on the August Campout. We were going to Camp Raymond to shoot some rifles and shotguns in the Council’s open shoot. The drive up was a little long, but it gave us plenty of time to talk and catch up on things. When we got to camp we set up our tents and cooking equipment.
In the morning I made breakfast with a new scout. We cooked breakfast burritos and they turned out really good. After lunch we went shooting at the rifle range. For two of the scouts, it was their first time shooting. We shot .22 rifles as it started to rain. The rain got worse and it started to hail, keeping us from shooting the shotguns. We had fun hiking back to camp in the rain and hail.
When we got back to our campsite we discovered that the leader’s tents were completely flooded. Due to the storm and the lightning, we had to leave camp and return to Anthem early. Once we arrived back in Anthem, we had a small birthday celebration for one of the Scouts. Even though this campout was cut short, we made some great memories!
The July outing was held on a Saturday and we did a few different activities. We met at Anthem Prep to have a chess tournament. Mr. Curry, the Anthem Prep chess coach led us through the merit badge class. Then we played three games of chess. After chess, we went to Rays to have pizza and to hang out. Then we went to Sam’s Yogurt to cool off and have some dessert.
We had a 7 pm slot at North Valley Escape Room. The Troop had to make it through The Great Outdoors. I don’t want to ruin the room for anyone reading. I will just say that we had a great time solving all the great clues. We worked well together as a team and we escaped!
Our May outing was a hike on Daisy Mountain. May was hot, so we did not go on a campout. The Scouts chose this hike because it was something we always wanted to do, even though it is a basic hike. It was a fun trail. We did not see a lot of wild life but we saw some different insects. The best thing about the trip was the view of Anthem from the top. We can finally say we have hiked Daisy Mountain!
Troop 432 went to camp Raymond in April. We drove up on a Saturday morning. We had a younger Scout cook his fist meal for his second class rank. He did a great job making a fantastic meal. After lunch we went on a hike and it was an adventure that each scout enjoyed. When we got to the top of the hill the view was majestic and beautiful.
After the hike our Senior Patrol Leader made his famous lasagna. The lasagna turned out absolutely perfect. Then we had some hot cobbler. We also had a flag retirement. Then we went to bed and slept under the stars. Next morning we woke up and one of the other scouts made the French toast with whipped cream and maple syrup. To top it off, we had candy strawberries on the French toast. Our troop has a lot of good cooks. We had a nice drive home!
